The History of Opus Yacht Charters

Opus Yacht Charters began as part of Houston Sailing. Houston Sailing was started by Capt. Terry and Suzie Grover in 2019 as a premier sailing school and yacht charter brokerage on Galveston Bay, Texas. They offered sailing lessons and certifications for sailors of all levels. Houston Sailing began working with multiple charter companies offering bareboat and crewed sailing vacations to the BVI and other destinations worldwide.

Capt. Terry

Captain Terry started sailing on Lake Grapevine, near Dallas, TX, when he was 8 years old, before moving to the Clear Lake area of Houston in the mid-70s. When he was 10 years old, his family trailered their little 24-foot Venture sailboat to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and sailed across the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas for 3 weeks of island hopping. Terry has been hooked ever since.

Today, Capt. Terry holds a 100-ton Masters license from the United States Coast Guard and thousands of sea miles under his keel. He has been an ASA and NauticEd instructor for over 20 years, teaching beginner and advanced classes in, including bareboat chartering, cruising catamaran, docking, navigation, and more. Terry is also a yacht broker and has sold new boats into the fleets that we partner with, Suzie.

Suzie

Suzie was born in Galveston and also grew up in the Galveston Bay area. She is no stranger to the boating life. Her father, Frank Annweiler was a sailor (and a professional football player for the Houston Oilers in the 1960’s). Suzie enjoyed relaxing on her fathers sailboat as a child. Suzie loves working with the charter guests. If you are not happy, she is not happy. Suzie will see to it that your vacation exceeds your expectations.

The Perfect Partnership

Early in their relationship, Terry took Suzie to the British Virgin Islands for a week on a 50-foot Leopard Catamaran. Now Suzie was hooked as well! If you ask her, she’ll tell you that Cow Wreck Beach on Anegada is the most beautiful place in the world. For those who love to chill on a white sand beach, Suzie will be happy to join you.

Terry and Suzie love to sail, whether it’s going on an afternoon outing, a sunset cruise, watching the beautiful firework shows on Galveston Bay, or island hopping in the Caribbean or the Bahamas. They both love sailing and chartering so much that they decided to share their passion with the world, and the result was Opus Yacht Charters. Over the years, Terry and Suzie have developed close relationships with the yacht owners, crews, and yacht management companies. This personal connection ensures that you get the absolute best yacht chartering experience.
